I have spent much time during my TV watching years watching televangelists preaching that God wants me to be Healthy, Wealthy, and Happy. Yet my perspective on the will of God seems to suggest that the mission is more important than the man. I am left with this question: Is my personal happiness and success vital to participation in the mission of God, or is it merely a happy coincidence?
I would really like to hear what the one or two people who read my blog think about this question?

Harry you are alive!
The more I read scripture, the less I see a picture of God whose primary concern is my happiness, health, or wealth. And that the presence or absence of the above is not necessarily a sign of one's anything with God.
In fact, the more I read the more uncomfortable I get (as I live here in Malibu) when I see what people go through (often not knowing why and sometimes not getting an answer ever as to why) and part of the plan and actions of God.
Health and Wealth drawn in a crowd. Gives Warm Fuzzies. Gives us things to pray about - but I am not sure gets us to the heart of God.
When did we start praying about health more than being a part of what God is doing or being used by him no matter what the cost?
you're ultimate fulfillment is vital to being involved in god's mission. however, your ultimate fulfillment may have very little to do with personal happiness or success.
HFC,

"Happiness is overrated. The last time I was happy, I got so fat..."
Hello:
You hear "health and wealth" because thats what everyone wants to hear, and when they hear what they want, they help the speaker generate their own "health and wealth".
Walk into any bookstore and you will find a huge section of self-help books. People want their own lives to be perfect, and screw anything or anyone else that gets in their way.
Our culture is one of self-centeredness. When I am the center of the universe, shouldn't God be out there providing me with health and wealth? Shouldn't his mission fit in perfectly to my life? Shouldn't he be revolving around me?
Now that I can articulate that, I just need to figure out how to live it.
